• Northrop Grumman releases FIRESTRIKE solid-state laser weapon
  November 13, 2008--The world's first weaponized solid-state laser for U.S. military services is ready for order from Northrop Grumman.
• Bookham introduces compact single-wavelength laser controller
  November 10, 2008--The New Focus low-cost compact laser controller enables Bookham to target Raman spectroscopy, metrology, and interferometry markets.
• Texas police department adopts 3D laser scanner for crime scene investigation
  November 6, 2008--Leica ScanStation measures crime scenes with high resolution to provide valuable three-dimensional images to police, detectives, and for juries.
• Dynamic interferometer measures general and meter-class optics
  October 27, 2008--Metrology instrument maker 4D Technology introduces the FizCam 2000 dynamic interferometer for measurement of general and meter-class optics.
• COMSOL introduces version 3.5 of Multiphysics software
  October 13, 2008--Parasolid support, new bidirectional Inventor interface, import of printed-circuit-board designs, parametric sweeping, and a host of enhancements throughout improve efficiency and boost engineering and scientific productivity of COMSOL Multiphysics software version 3.5.
• DDP's LED lamp reduces power consumption 85% compared to incandescent bulbs
  September 26, 2008--DDP (El Segundo, CA), a provider of engineered light-emitting diode (LED) solutions, has developed a 120 VAC line voltage lamp that reduces power consumption and maintenance costs. Designated the 120MBLS-X-CX, the wide-angle LED operates to maximum of 130VAC, while drawing less than 8 mA--85% lower than the power consumption of a standard 120MB incandescent light bulb.
• Newport announces sales release for its SmartTable OTS
  September 12, 2008--Newport Corporation (Irvine, CA), provider of laser and photonic solutions that Make, Manage, and Measure Light, announced sales release for its SmartTable OTS optical table system--a vibration isolation system that adds integrated accessories to maximize comfort and optimize laboratory space, organization, and safety. • Nufern introduces NuQ pulsed fiber laser for industrial marking
  September 8, 2008--Introduced at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago this week, pulsed laser marks fiber with 20 W of power.
• Ibsen Photonics launches high-speed FBG sensor interrogator
  September 2, 2008--Ibsen Photonics (Copenhagen, Denmark) released a new high-speed version of its extended wavelength range I-MON Interrogation Monitor for fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor systems. Ibsen is a supplier of holographic phase masks, fused silica transmission gratings, and optical spectrometer modules.
• Edmund Optics anounces new UV-to-near-IR spectrometers
  August 25, 2008--New back-thinned CCD spectrometer designed for low-light-level, hyperspectral, high-resolution applications.
