June 23, 2008--Image-processing expert Vision Components (Ettlingen, Germany) introduces the new VCSBC4012 camera, thereby extending its VC BoardCam range of intelligent cameras without a housing suitable for demanding industrial applications. Available in large quantities, the Smart Cameras provide an optimal price/performance ratio. The 5 megapixel units are designed especially for OEM manufacturers.

All components of the new camera are installed on a board measuring 40 x 120 mm, which makes it easy to integrate the unit into a wide range of applications. The VCSBC4012 features a CMOS sensor with a freely programmable resolution up to 2592 x 1944 pixels. Its key component is a 400 MHz processor from Texas Instruments with 3,200 MIPS of computing power. At full resolution, the frame rate is 11.6 frames per second. VGA skipping allows for a maximum frame rate of 102 frames per second. The VCSBC4012 comes with 64 MB DRAM for program and data storage. An Ethernet interface allows for integration into existing automation environment. Additionally, two digital inputs and four outputs (open collector) are available on-board.

The intelligent camera, which is available as a color or black-and-white model, is suitable for use in low-light conditions. An electronic rolling shutter ensures short exposure times.
